As an ideator, I’m drawn to big ideas. I tend to read a minimum of 12 books a year on a variety of topics from business, to spirituality, from history to creativity. My self-guided study exposes me to a world of ideas, sometimes competing sometimes complimentary, and I believe these ideas enriched my life. I live a fuller existence because I can consciously engage with my life through these ideas. In particular, I love when really large complicated ideas are masterfully communicated in short and simple statements. As Albert Einstein famously said,
If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.
– Albert Einstein
A few years back I felt called to collect these big ideas and make them accessible in a Twitter-length format. I called the project Short Life Lessons. The concept was simple, take everything I’m engaging with and distill them down to short, tweet-length quotes.
Our attention spans are ever-shrinking in a world with exponential amounts of content vying for our attention. I hope that Short Life Lessons reach people who need them and inspire action within their life within the 5 seconds I might have to grasp their attention. Maybe a lofty goal, but I believe in the power of words, especially considering that almost every creation myth begins with a deity speaking things into existence.
Short Life Lessons isn’t about me and my own wisdom, while I will share quite a bit of my own short life lessons. We all receive incredible wisdom from our lived experiences. I encourage you to write your own short life lessons and to share them with the hashtag #shortlifelessons.
